How much does garage floor epoxy cost in Boise?
Typical installed prices run about $3–$6 per sq ft for solid-color epoxy, $4.50–$8 for flake epoxy, $5.50–$10 for polyaspartic flake and $7–$12 for metallic. A typical 2-car garage usually lands around $2,000–$4,000. Use the cost calculator for a ballpark.
How much does it cost to epoxy 400 square feet?
At typical Treasure Valley prices, 400 sq ft runs about $1,200–$2,400 for solid-color epoxy, $1,800–$3,200 for flake epoxy and $2,200–$4,000 for polyaspartic flake, before heavy repairs. Small floors may also hit an installer's minimum job price.
Why are some quotes so much cheaper?
Low quotes often skip diamond grinding, use thin water-based products, or leave out repairs and topcoats. Those floors look fine at first but tend to peel under hot tires. Compare what's included — grinding, repairs, flake coverage and topcoat — not just the total.
Do you charge for estimates?
No. Estimates are free and done on site so we can measure, check the concrete and moisture, and show you color samples before giving a written quote.
Systems
What is the downside of an epoxy garage floor?
Plain epoxy can amber in direct sunlight, is slick when wet without texture, and can soften under very hot tires if it's thin or poorly bonded. A flake broadcast adds grip, and a polyaspartic topcoat adds UV and heat resistance. Good prep prevents most failures.
Epoxy or polyaspartic — which is better?
Polyaspartic cures faster, stays UV-stable and handles heat better; epoxy builds thicker and costs less. Many floors use an epoxy base with a polyaspartic topcoat. Read epoxy vs polyaspartic for the full comparison.
What is a flake floor?
A colored base coat with vinyl chips broadcast across it until fully covered, then scraped and sealed with a clear topcoat. It looks like granite or terrazzo, hides dust and tire marks and adds grip. See flake epoxy floors.
Are coated floors slippery?
Smooth, high-gloss floors can be slick when wet. Flake floors have light texture, and an anti-slip additive can be mixed into the topcoat. We recommend it for garages where snowmelt drips off vehicles in winter.
Will my floor turn yellow?
Epoxy can amber over time in strong UV light, which matters near an open garage door in Boise's high-desert sun. A UV-stable polyaspartic or polyurethane topcoat helps the floor keep its color.
Installation
How long does installation take?
Most 2-car garages take one to two days. Foot traffic is typically fine after about a day, and vehicles usually wait a few days depending on the system and temperature.
Do I need to empty my garage?
Yes — the floor needs to be clear for grinding and coating. Most people move items to the driveway or a covered area for the install. Ask at the estimate if you need help planning around large items.
Is grinding dusty?
We grind with diamond tooling connected to dust-extraction vacuums, which captures most of the dust. Garage doors stay mostly closed during grinding to keep dust out of the house.
Can you install in winter?
Yes, with the right products and conditions. Epoxy cures slowly in a cold garage, so we may heat the space or choose a polyaspartic system that cures at lower temperatures. We'll recommend the best timing for your floor.
Can you coat a new-construction garage?
Yes, after the slab has cured — generally about 28 days. Builder curing compounds must be ground off. See coating a new-construction garage floor.
Care & lifespan
How long does garage floor epoxy last?
A professionally ground and installed residential floor commonly lasts many years, with the topcoat taking the wear. Thin kits on unground concrete often fail much sooner. More in how long garage epoxy lasts.
What do epoxy floors look like after 5 years?
A well-installed flake floor usually still looks good after five years, with some light scuffs and dulling in the tire paths. Sun-exposed plain epoxy may amber. A cleaning and fresh topcoat can bring back the gloss.
How do I clean a coated garage floor?
Sweep or dust-mop regularly and mop with warm water and a mild, non-acidic cleaner. Squeegee out winter slush so deicers don't sit on the floor, and wipe oil or fluid spills promptly.
Will road salt and magnesium chloride damage it?
A sealed coating protects the concrete from deicers far better than bare concrete. Rinse or squeegee heavy slush periodically. Read garage floors and Idaho winters.
What is hot-tire pickup?
Hot tires can soften weak coatings and pull them off the floor, especially after summer drives. Proper grinding and a hard topcoat prevent it. Details in hot-tire pickup and UV yellowing.
